The Freedom from Barriers event is designed to give students the opportunity to gain insight into the perspective of people with a disability who confront barriers daily. Barriers can be emotional, psychological and/or physical and cause individuals to have to adapt to life differently than those without the barriers. Just as you can never really know what it is like to be a person of another race or gender, you can never know what it is like to have a disability until you have one. This event is meant to provide empathy, understanding and awareness of how we may be able to assist individuals that have to overcome barriers. It will provide an opportunity for learning and interaction that complements the classroom experience.
