Federal Work-Study (FWS)

What is Federal Work-Study (FWS)?

Work-Study is a form of need-based financial aid that helps students pay for their educational expenses through part-time employment.

Complete a FAFSA: To determine eligibility, students are required to submit a FAFSA. Students must also have a GPA of 2.0 or higher, unmet need, and meet Baker College’s Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements.

Benefits of Federal Work-Study

  • Reduces or even eliminates the need for student loans — unlike a loan, Work-Study funds are not repaid and earned funds go directly to the student.
  • Work experience — many Work-Study jobs are office positions, which provide you with work experience you can include on a resume.
  • Advancement potential — a Work-Study position can help you develop the skills you need for a full-time position at Baker College or with another employer.
  • Flexible hours — many Work-Study positions have flexible hours and will work around your class schedule.
