Medical assisting is a multi-skilled allied health profession in which practitioners work primarily in ambulatory settings such as medical offices and clinics. Medical assistants function as members of the healthcare delivery team and perform administrative duties and clinical procedures. The practicum is an unpaid or paid, supervised work experience. Graduates are encouraged to take the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants) national certifying exam. Passing this exam entitles the candidate to the credential CMA (Certified Medical Assistant), AAMA.
