Canvas Cybersecurity Incident

Overview
Baker College has been made aware of a cybersecurity incident involving Instructure, the parent company of the Canvas Learning Management System.
What We Know at This Time
Based on information provided by Instructure, multiple educational institutions that use Canvas may have been impacted by this incident. Instructure’s investigation is ongoing and as of last communication, they have stated “Based on what we have found to date, the data involved appears to include personal information. At this time, we have found no indication that passwords, dates of birth, government identifiers, or financial information were involved.”
We are still awaiting additional details to verify exactly what Baker College data may have been exposed. Investigation and remediation remain ongoing.

What Should You Do at This Time?
No specific action is required from Baker community members at this time.
As a reminder:
- Never share your password or provide your multifactor authentication code to anyone, including IT.
- Do not approve password or authenticator notifications that you did not request.
- Do not click links without knowing that they are valid or where they will take you.
- Do not give out any personal information over the phone if you aren’t sure of who you’re speaking to.
What About Exams and Assignments?
Baker College instructors will work with students to be flexible regarding this situation. Additional details will be provided via your academic teams in regards to grades, finals, and submitting coursework. Be assured, we are committed to the following:
- Academic Impact: This downtime will not negatively impact your grades. We are working directly with faculty to ensure you have the support you need, including reasonable adjustments to deadlines and course expectations during this Canvas service disruption.
- Continuing Your Work: If you have instructions for your final assignments saved or printed, we encourage you to continue working on them so you can stay on track. Otherwise, we will ensure you have plenty of time to catch up and submit your work once the system is stable.
